Indoor Hot Tubs vs. Outdoor Hot Tubs

Indoor Hot Tubs vs. Outdoor Hot Tubs

 by: Terri Greene

Purchasing a hot tub is a large investment which means you will want to make sure it is located in the perfect place. One of the biggest decisions you will have to make regarding your hot tub is whether you want it indoors or outdoors. There are pros and cons to each location, each are outlined below in order to help you make your decision.

Indoor Hot Tubs

Advantages

  • Indoor hot tubs are perfect in the winter when you don’t want to be outside in the cold. You don’t even have to leave your house in order to access your hot tub.

  • In the winter, the heat from your hot tub will provide extra warmth in the room of the hot tub, as well as surrounding rooms.

  • Indoor hot tubs provide privacy and convenience, which outdoor ones sometimes lack.

Disadvantages

  • You must determine whether or not the hot tub will fit in the room you desire. This may also mean having to build a new room or addition to your home.

  • The room you choose for your hot tub will require some form of extra ventilation whether it’s additional windows or a ventilation system.

  • Once you add the cost of ventilation plus additional room, indoor hot tubs tend to cost more than outdoor ones.

Outdoor Hot Tubs

Advantages

  • The only alteration you will have to make to your home for an outdoor hot tub will be digging a hole big enough for the tub to fit. This is much less hassle than building an additional room or using an already-existing room in your home.

  • Outdoor hot tubs cost considerably less than indoor hot tubs, when you factor in the costs of ventilation and space for an indoor hot tub.

  • Many individuals love to enjoy the weather while lounging in a hot tub. Outdoor hot tubs provide you with the opportunity to relax outdoors in a comfortable temperature, even when it’s raining or snowing.

Disadvantages

  • Outdoor hot tubs require more maintenance due to falling leaves, dirt and other debris found outdoors. An indoor hot tub is protected from these things and requires very little maintenance of this kind.

  • Heavy rain, snow or hail may inconvenience individuals which will reduce the amount of time actually spent in the hot tub.

  • There is less privacy with outdoor hot tubs. Being in an outdoor, open area provides the opportunity for people to see you when you’re in your hot tub and potentially hear all your conversations.

Take these considerations into account when choosing your hot tub. Ultimately, it is going to be you and your family who will make the decision of which type best suits your needs and desires. Ultimately, you will enjoy every last minute spent in your hot tub, regardless of where it is located.
