Seramis Clay Granulate - Fertiliser and Water Indicators

The Seramis clay granulate is manufactured from high quality clay found only in Westerwald region of Germany. This area has been famous for its pottery since the 16 th century. The clay is mined from deposits laid down during the tertiary period 25-40 million years ago, and consists mainly of the minerals kaolinite, illite and quartz. It also contains other iron compounds and titanium. The open cast mining has regulations that stipulate that the land must be reclaimed after completion, with pits filled in or made into lakes. The surrounding area is then reforested and landscaped. Approximately 3 million tonnes are extracted annually with only a fraction being used for Seramis.

In the production of Seramis clay is diluted with water and then undergoes a special porosity process to achieve a pore volume of over 80% Then the clay is dried, broken down to an ideal size, sieved and subsequently fired. The clay assumes its reddish-brown colour in the firing process, as the iron contained in the clay oxidizes. To remove dust the product is sprayed with water and is subjected to a rigorous quality control before packing.

To compliment its special characteristics, Seramis have developed two different types of fertilizer. Flowering plants, particularly whilst in bloom, require greater amounts of phosphate. Foliage plants, require a fertilizer with a high nitrogen content to promote strong leaf growth. Seramis Liquid Plant Food comes in Red capped bottle for flowering plants and a Green capped bottle for foliage plants. These bottles have an easy to use cap measure system.
To ensure the best use of Seramis and Seramis Liquid Plant Food we recommend using Seramis Water Indicators. These simply push into the pot and turn from blue to red when watering is required.

Market Gardeners and Horticultural supplies will find Seramis a clean medium capable of handling a variety of plants. The special watering characteristics of Seramis can either cut down on the irrigation intervals, using its unique water storing pores.

Or, watering can be increased along with nutrients because all the excess water will be drained. This allows fresh oxygen to reach the roots in the space between the granules, these are the conditions that allow accelerated root growth which in turn means larger plants and quicker growing times.

Seramis can be used in individual pots for hand watering or used in a drip feed hydroponic system, We can advise on any type of installation.
