Get Behind the Wheel - Drive Yourself ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ One of the tough parts of being an entrepreneur of any type is keeping yourself motivated. Some days, you just want to pack it in. Some days you feel like you are going nowhere. Some days, you get so many distractions that you just don't even get out of the starting gate! I've had as many of those problems as the rest of you. But, like you, if I don't get over it, the money does not come in. Here are some things that have helped me, and I trust will help you as well. ---> Analyze the problem. Maybe you have a habit of sitting around until inspiration hits you. Maybe you just like to read the paper before you start your work. Whatever it is, find out what is slowing you down. Once you know that, the rest will be a lot easier. Take it from me. My motto is -- Never put off 'til tomorrow what you can put off 'til the day after tomorrow. ---> Change the destructive or non-constructive habits. If you read the paper just to put off your work. Make your paper reading a reward for getting your work done. Or, make your paper reading useful by cutting out the articles that have something in them that will give you a business idea. You still might want to do that toward the end of your day. ---> Make sure you are working in a constructive environment. Try to have an 'office'; a place that you feel like getting some work done and the rest of the family know that you are doing something that is not just recreation. You should try to let them know what is an appropriate type of interruption. ---> At http://www.contactplus.com you can download a free scheduling program called Task Plus. This will give you an appointment book type of scheduler. Put in all the things that you need to do. You can make each of the things a daily or weekly task. Then be sure to check in daily to make sure you follow your own directions. ---> Once in a while, take stock of where you are, where you have come from, where you are going and what you did to get where you are. Also take a look at what you could have done better. This will not only give you insight that your work is not useless, but will give you courage to continue your efforts. By getting in touch with the things that prevent your daily work and taking the appropriate actions needed, you will not only improve your outlook, but increase your daily productivity. Until next time, just keep plugging.
